Truth & Boogers

Check out this week's Bible Passage

A few week’s ago I asked our worship/arts folks to send me any passages that God was using to touch their heart. Anna Moss sent me a great passage and how God had expanded the application past just the issue of worldly treasure for her.

If someone were to ask you what you treasure the most, what would your first response be? When you measure the time spent on what you said you treasure the most, how does it add up? When you measure how much you invest in that area with your riches, how does it add up?

If you see disagreement between your initial response and where your time and treasure are going, maybe you should dig deep this week and ask what you could do to narrow the gap from reality to where you should be investing time and resources.

Who nose, it may require some Kleenexes and determination (acknowledge and love the pun).

Thanks Anna for forwarding the passage and idea. Please come ready to talk more Thursday evening. Anna will be leading our devotion time together and I am excited to see what God does with your time and energy this week!

Public or Personal Worship?

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:5-6

Worship leaders are constantly in the limelight. We touched on this topic last week. Technicians are usually more in the background, but they can still get caught up in doing something for the attention of others. I believe that God has designed a habit to help all of us in worship arts to keep from falling into that trap of doing our ministry for the attention of others.

Ask yourself: Do I have a regular personal worship time? If so, how is it different than my corporate worship? If you do not have a personal worship time, what would having one do for your spiritual walk? How might that change how God could use your gifts in worship?

My prayer for you this week is that the Lord would give you a passion to connect to His heart more privately
. Then, I believe we will all have a more genuine presence in public worship.

How Does Motive Move You?

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no
longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5: 13-14 (NIV)

As an Artist and Tech I love to hang out with people like me. It is natural for us to want to play with and hang out with people who have similar likes and dislikes.  There is a connection there and I am easily drawn to others who share my interests.  However, I think that it is natural for us to sometimes confuse why we are doing what we are doing in worship/arts.

Something to think about: What get’s me the most jazzed about being a part of the worship teams at ORBC?  Am I here on week’s I don’t play or have a role? How important do I see Thursday’s devotion and my participation in it? How important do you see your role as a leader vs. a tech or musician? How is my role connected to my ministry and how is it different?

I pray that this week the Lord will reveal to you what your real motives are for being a part of worship/arts and that He will show you how to refocus your motive or to enhance it to have greater influence.

A Mouthful

This post was written by Larry Davis, a pastor at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Salisbury, MD.

Check out this week's Bible passage: Matthew 4

Each and every one of us face challenges and trials in our ministry. We can face them from many different angles and look at them from many different perspectives. I have to admit that looking to Scripture first is not always my initial response…but it was Jesus’.

Check out this week's video by CLICKING HERE and be sure you read the above Bible passage.  See how He responded to one of Hi greatest challenges. I can’t wait to see what you hear from the Lord based on Matthew 4.

May you come ready to share a mouthful!
